German PV market continues to grow

According to initial forecasts by the BSW-Solar, solar generation capacities grew again to record levels in 2024. In total, more than one million new photovoltaic units were commissioned last year.

Battery storage capacity additions in Germany remain at record levels

According to preliminary estimates of BSW-Solar, the yearly battery storage additions reached a record level in 2024 again. Overall, almost 600,000 battery storage units were installed in 2024.

Battery storage capacity in Germany approaches 20 Gigawatt hours

According to preliminary estimates of BSW-Solar, the cumulative installed battery capacity in Germany reached approximately 19 GWh in 2024. This capacity distributes itself onto 15.4 GWh in the residential segment, 1.4 GWh in the commercial and industrial segment and 2.2 GWH in mass storage units. This storage provides a net rated power of 12 GW.

Mass Storage Capacity in Planning

According to data available to the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar), the installed capacity of mass storage could increase five-fold in cumulative terms over the course of the coming two years. This is the result of a recent market analysis by the consulting agency Enervis commissioned by BSW-Solar.
