German PV market shows strong growth in 2023

According to an BSW analysis of the Marktstammdatenregister, 7.5 GW new PV capacity was installed in Germany in 2022. For the year 2023, currently 14.7 GW new added PV capacity is registered, which represents an increase of 95 per cent compared to the previous year.

PV ensures clean electricity

A 70 square meter potovoltaic system with a nominal output of 13 kilowatts produces as much electricity per year as a four-person hoursehold consumes in total to cover all its energy needs: electricity for the household, up to 20,000 kilometers of driving in an e-car, and electricity for the heat pump to heat an averagely insulated single-family house.

70 % of population support coalition plans to remove solar barriers

According to a representative survey conducted by YouGov at the end of May on behalf of BSW, 70 percent of homeowners support the plans of the government coalition to simplify and accelerate the installation of solar power systems on owner-occupied homes, rented residential buildings and in solar parks.

2/3 of population support faster PV technology expansion

According to a representative survey conducted by YouGov at the end of May on behalf of the BSW, around two thirds of German homeowners are in favor of accelerating the expansion of solar technology in order to be able to cover around 30 percent of domestic electricity requirements in ten years' time.

Sunny times – good business climate

The dismantling of market barriers and improved framework conditions combined with high customer demand due to the fossil energy crisis ensures sunny prospects and thus a good business climate in the photovoltaic industry. This is underpinned by the Business Climate Index (BCI or GKI in German) regularly surveyed by the BSW.
